Studio Policies

Maria Wagner Clarinet Studio Policy - Flat Rate Tuition
September 2024 - August 2025

My Responsibilities

I will share the language of music by teaching technique and expression on the clarinet. I will tailor my curriculum to match each student’s needs, interests, and goals.

My mission is to empower students with the skills to continue learning between lessons by encouraging commitment, self-awareness, and by outlining clear practice routines and step-by-step goals.

I will create a welcoming and accepting environment by treating each student with patience and kindness.

Student and Family Responsibilities

Students agree to arrive at each lesson punctually, with their clarinet in good working condition and their folder with all lesson materials including books, printouts, and assignment sheets, and a pencil.

Students agree to practice at home between lessons. The amount of practice time suggested will vary depending on the age and goals of each student. The objective is to have the weekly assignment well prepared by the next lesson. Please ask questions about home practice assignments and give me feedback if the assignments are too challenging or not challenging enough, and I can adjust our approach.

Parents: If something is happening at home or school that is affecting your child please let me know. The more information I have, the more I can be sensitive to the needs of your child.

All students are encouraged to play at the Spring Studio Recital (early June date TBD). Recital participation is not mandatory. Students will also be encouraged to audition for local ensembles and music summer camps. If you learn of an opportunity that you or your student would like to participate in, bring information to the next lesson.

Tuition and Schedule

Flat Rate Tuition Schedule: Flat monthly tuition rates are based on the total number of guaranteed offered lessons in the calendar year divided into 12 equal installments and will not be altered. When a student enrolls, they are reserving a weekly time slot in the studio schedule. Tuition pays for the weekly lesson reservation, the annual studio class/recital, and email support between lessons.

There will be a minimum of 43 lessons offered throughout the year. The weeks when lessons are not held are communicated in advance on the studio calendar, and listed here:

Teacher Emergency Days

Tuition is based on 43 lessons, but two additional lessons are built into the calendar, for a total of 45 lessons during the year. In the case of teacher illness or emergency, these two additional lessons can be canceled by the teacher with short notice. These weeks are complimentary in the case that no emergency cancellations occur.

Tuition Payment

Tuition installments are due on the 1st of every month. Invoices will go out by the 25th of the month prior and will reflect the flat rate and list the lessons scheduled for that month. If payment is not received by 7 days after the due date there is a $20 late fee. Recurring late payments may result in termination of the student’s enrollment. All payments are non-refundable and non transferable.

Lesson Termination

To terminate lessons and tuition, written notification must be received via email two weeks in advance of the 1st of the next month. In the event that this deadline is not met, tuition will still be due for the entire next month and students have the option to attend all paid lessons that month, and lessons will then cancel for the following month. (The two week notice termination policy is waived for first time students for the first month.)

Payment Methods

Online payment: Invoices will include a link to pay online. Follow the link or log into your Duet Partner account and pay online with a credit/debit run through Stripe.

Cash/Check: You may bring cash or a check for the full monthly installment to your first lesson of each month, or mail the check to me. After the 7th of the month, the late fee applies. If you will be absent for the first lesson of the month, please mail the check in advance or pay online.

Automatic bank checks: Many students enjoy having an automatic bill pay set up through their bank, and the monthly check is mailed directly from their bank to me.

Students are responsible to cover additional costs for materials (books, reeds, music, etc.)

Rescheduling, Cancellation, and Make-up Lessons

24-hour Policy

Any request to alter the student’s weekly time slot requires 24 hours notice.

If you need to reschedule your lesson time for another time the same week, contact me with at least 24 hours notice and we can reschedule that week subject to my availability. If my schedule does not have an opening, you will receive a make-up lesson credit.

If you have a planned week-long absence (ex. a vacation), contact me with at least 24 hours notice and you will receive a make-up lesson credit.

A cancellation with less than 24 hours notice will not receive a make-up lesson credit. A request to reschedule with less than 24 hours notice is considered a cancellation and the lesson is forfeited without a make-up lesson credit, including for day-of illness.

Make-up Lessons

Make-up lesson credits will be tracked in Duet Partner. You may contact me to request to use your make-up lesson credit at any time (ex. you have an audition coming up and want two lessons in one week) and I will do my best to accommodate your request that week.

Make-up lesson credits are valid for 3 months as long as the student continues to be actively enrolled. If you terminate lessons you forfeit any accumulated make-up lessons.  It is the student’s responsibility to schedule the make-up lesson if they wish to use their make-up lesson credit. If the student does not use their make-up lesson credit within 3 months, the credit and its corresponding lesson are forfeited. Make-up lessons do not count as credit for the next month’s tuition.

Teacher Reschedule Non-Emergency

Occasionally due to my performance schedule I may request to reschedule your lesson to another time during the week. I will give as much notice as possible. If we cannot find a mutually agreeable time, you will be given a make-up lesson credit.

Weather Cancellation

If it is unsafe to travel to your in-person lesson, we can hold your lesson online at your normally scheduled lesson time.

Student Illness

For the safety of the entire studio, please do not attend your lesson in-person if you are sick. If you are symptomatic but well enough to have a lesson, we can hold your lesson online. The 24 hour cancellation policy still applies for same-day illness.

If you or a household member have been exposed to COVID-19 please communicate with me and follow the CDC guidelines. I may request you take a test before attending in-person depending on the situation.
